Aromatherapy Massage

(Holistic Therapies)

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils distilled from plants to promote a well balanced and healthy lifestyle. Massage, bathing, vaporisation and inhalation are the usual methods of use.

Essential oils are blended with a carrier oil to create a mixture which can be used directly on the body. Pure essential oils are extremely concentrated therefore before using pure essential oils virtually all of them will need to be diluted in a carrier oil to avoid allergic reaction. Aromatherapists believe aromatherapy can boost well being, relieve stress and help to refresh your body, in other words aromatherapy may improve your physical and emotional health. The theory behind aromatherapy is that each essential oil has its own specific health benefit for example lavender is said to help with sleeping problems and to relieve muscle tension and anxiety, therefore the blend of oils used for the massage will depend on both the client's needs and conditions as well as the client's own smell preferences. As for the massage technique itself please read the description for Swedish Massage for a description of the techniques most likely to be used.
